BUSINESS CLOSE: AstraZeneca brings in Alexion finance boss; Universal Music could go public; staff taken on at rapid rate last month

The FTSE 100 closed flat, while the pound clawed back ground lost yesterday after the Government announced that Portugal would come off the green list.

The UK blue chip index ended the day little changed at 7,069,.04 while the FTSE 250 added 30.33 points to 22,832.73. The pound benefited from a weaker dollar, rising 0.5 per cent against the greenback, with £1 buying $1.4170.

In company news, drug giant AstraZeneca has poached the finance boss from its new subsidiary Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Aradhana Sarin, to replace Marc Dunoyer as it waits on the £28billion deal to go through.
