As the lyrics of Away in a Manger go, the little Lord Jesus had no crib for a bed.
At this time of year, many of us have also laid down our heads in less than ideal locations.
The arrival of guests and a lack of spare rooms have seen a spate of unconventional sleeping arrangements – such as a bed, complete with festive duvet cover and toy snowman, set up in a kitchen.
Images have been shared on Twitter over the weekend for the Duvet Know It’s Christmas campaign – a tradition started a decade ago by writer Rhodri Marsden to help raise money for the homeless charity Centrepoint.
One picture shows blankets put down in a bathroom while another has the pillow perilously positioned directly below a glass table.
Alice Eggeling tweeted that her mother had taped up the light above her single bed ‘so I don’t hit my head’, adding: ‘I am 42.’
Amy Mills, an assistant TV producer, was billeted in her ‘childhood bedroom, complete with teddy bears, old uni photos and dance trophies from when I was ten’.
By last night, Mr Marsden’s JustGiving page had raised more than £38,000 in donations.
No room at the kitchen: A Christmas-themed bed wedged between the washing machine and cooker
Lounging around: A mattress on the festive living room’s floor with a Christmas tree in the corner
Sheet music: Fancy bedding down next to a keyboard with a tall lamp in the corner of the room
Get your head down: A single bed is jammed below a glass table and surrounded by various bits of furniture
Night on the tiles: A light cord is visible in a bathroom as covers are laid down on the floor
