Dashcam footage showed a police officer being run over on a busy interstate by a suspect who fled down a Tennessee highway.

Roy Nicholson, 26, of Columbia, was pulled over on I-65 North between Murfreesboro Road and McEwen Drive around 10.30am on Sunday for a ‘traffic violation’.

He ‘asked Nicholson to step out of his car after seeing a gun in the vehicle and smelling marijuana.’

Dashcam footage shows Nicholson resisting arrest and fighting off with Franklin Police Officer Dustyn Stevens, who attempts to keep the man’s hands behind his back.

Nicholson can be heard yelling ‘sir, stop,’ as he pushes Stevens away. Stevens manages to keep ahold of him, backing the two up against Nicholson’s white car.

As they continue to struggle, Nicholson manages to open the driver’s side door as Officer Matt Lamarr pulls up in another cruiser and races toward the two men.

Roy Nicholson, 26, of Columbia, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault against a first responder and felony evading after he resisted arrest and dragged two officers down a Tennessee highway

Officers Dustyn Stevens and Matt Lamarr can be seen on dashcam footage trying to pull Nicholson out of the car as he drives away

Nicolson drags both officers down the road (pictured) and runs over Officer Stevens

Both officers can be seen aggressively trying to pull Nicholson out of the car, who starts to pull away, taking both officers with him.

The dramatic footage shows Lamarr harshly hitting the ground after being dragged a few feet, but Stevens can be seen getting dragged down the highway as Nicholson merges onto the highway.

A gray car in the right lane quickly merges into the left lane, cutting off a white truck to avoid Nicholson’s car.

The video cuts off before Stevens gets run over and the Franklin Police Department reported the four-year veteran was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center to be treated for his injuries.

Lamarr, who has been on the force for 16 years, did not require medical attention, the police department said in a statement.

Stevens can be seen struggling with Nicholson, who fought the officers off to avoid being arrested after the officer saw a gun and smelled marijuana in the car

Lamarr pulled up shortly into the struggle to assist Stevens, but Nicholson still managed to get inside the car

Nicholson was arrested outside of a Walmart after witnesses were able to provide information on his location and he was charged with two counts of aggravated assault against a first responder and felony evading.

He is free on the $40,000 bond set by the magistrate and is due back in court on June 9.
