The British tourist arrested for allegedly killing a Swedish mother has been pictured
A British tourist who was arrested in Cyprus after he allegedly ran down and killed a Swedish mother whilst driving a beach buggy in the resort town of Ayia Napa has been pictured for the first time.
The 25-year-old man hit Camilla Christina Pamdahl, 46, on a pedestrian crossing as he overtook a car whilst drunk and under the influence of cannabis in the Mediterranean town on Wednesday night, police said on Thursday.
Police have released a photo of the British suspect wearing sunglasses, a white vest and blue shorts — but they have not yet confirmed his name.
The Briton fled the scene on foot after the incident whilst Pamdahl, who was on holiday in Cyprus with her five-year-old daughter, was rushed to Famagusta general hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.
The mother, from Västra Götaland County in Sweden, had left her daughter with staff at the hotel’s playground so she could buy some groceries, reports the Cyprus Times. But she never returned.
Images from the scene show the twisted remains of the red buggy next to the pedestrian crossing and another car.
The Briton had overtaken a stopped car whilst driving a rental buggy on Wednesday night before fatally hitting Pamdahl on a pedestrian crossing on Ayia Napa’s Nissi Avenue, police told the Cyprus Mail.

‘A young man driving the rental buggy overtook a stopped car, and hit the woman,’ a police spokesperson said, adding that the accident occurred at about 6pm local time.
The British tourist quickly abandoned his vehicle and left a passenger inside but he was tracked down by police within hours and arrested at 11.30pm local time.
Officers conducted an alcohol test on the man and he was found to have to be four times over the legal limit. He also tested positive for cannabis following a preliminary drug test, police said.
Police sources told MailOnline that the British tourist is set to face charges including causing death due to reckless driving or dangerous actions and fleeing the scene of an accident.

Pamdahl was killed whilst getting groceries for herself and her five-year-old daughter. Police have since contacted the child’s father, who is abroad, to travel to Cyprus to pick up the child.
The girl is currently with officials of the Welfare Office and a child psychologist.
Police sources told KNews that the British tourist, his passenger nor the driver of the other vehicle were injured in the incident.
Only the British driver was arrested and he is set to appear in court on Friday where prosecutors will attribute the charges to him. The man will face a trial at a later date which will be announced in the court.
A Cyprus court earlier ordered that the man remain in custody for six days until investigators are ready to bring charges against him.
A Swedish Foreign ministry spokesperson told MailOnline: ‘The Ministry for Foreign Affairs can confirm that a Swedish woman in her 40s from Västra Götaland died in Cyprus on 4 May.
‘Her family have been notified.’
