The National Park Service says it received a letter from the US Secret Service asking it to close parts of the National Mall, Jeff Reinbold, superintendent of the National Mall and Memorial Parks, told reporters Friday.

“As of this morning, the secretary of the Interior has officially closed the areas in the National Mall, that includes, again, the core area and the locations that the Mayor mentioned before in support of the request from the Secret Service and US Park police,” he said.

Reinbold also said there will be two areas designated for protests.

“We were able to identify two locations on Pennsylvania Avenue where up to 100 people will be able to gather. They will be met by US Park Police, escorted through magnetometers, and then taken to these areas so that they can exercise their first amendment rights,” he said.
