The Cannes Film Festival rolled out the red carpet for the first time in more than two years on Tuesday, launching the French Riviera spectacular with the premiere of Leos Carax’s Annette.
And Bella Hadid stunned in a monochrome gown as she led the stars gracing the red carpet alongside leading lady Marion Cotillard, Jessica Chastain, Candice Swanepoel and Helen Mirren during the event’s opening night.
The occasion drew a wide spectrum of film luminaries back to Cannes to celebrate the festival, which was cancelled last year due to the Covid-19 virus
Bella, 24, led the glamour as she put on a stunning display in a chic white gown that had a black chiffon halterneck detailing that showed off a glimpse of her black strapless bra.
The model’s ensemble fit snugly on her slender frame as she showed off her modelling skills while on the red carpet, and her outfit had a chic black train.
Opting for a classic look, the model pulled her brunette locks back into a bun with her locks slicked back over her head in a middle parting.
She added a glittering touch to her ensemble by wearing a pair of large diamond drop earrings, and she used a light palette of make-up to accentuate her stunning features.

Over the next 10 days, the Cannes Film Festival will try to resuscitate global cinema on a grand scale.
Cannes has pushed ahead in much its usual form, with splashy red-carpet displays and a line-up of many of the world’s most revered filmmakers, including Asghar Farhadi, Wes Anderson, Mia Hansen-Love and Paul Verhoeven.
Festivalgoers are tested every 48 hours, seated shoulder-to-shoulder and masked for screenings.
Earlier in the day, Marion and Adam posed together at Cannes Film Festival during a photocall for the upcoming movie.
It was there that Marion revealed she and Adam had to ‘mimic cunnilingus’ whilst singing for their new movie Annette.
Marion discussed the odd sex scenes they had to film for their roles as a husband and wife, which involved some unusual singing whilst in bedroom situations.
Speaking in Cannes, she spilled: ‘On most classic musicals, you record your songs in advance and then you do playback on the set. But there, Leos wanted everything to be completely live.

One to watch Annette is Carax’s English language debut and his first film since 2012’s Holy Motors. It features music from the band Sparks and is set to come out on September 3 (Marion pictured in a film still)

Couple goals: Jodie Foster and wife Alexandra Hedison also made a stylish entrance at the event

Stunning: Jodie took a moment to post for shots alone as the cameras went wild for her arrival on the red carpet

Couple: Jodie and Alexandra could not stop smiling as they posed on the red carpet

Romance: Once inside, Jodie couldn’t keep her eyes or hands off her photographer partner as they shared a sweet kiss

Devoted: Jodie looked deeply in love as she stared into the eyes of her wife, who she married in 2014, amid the proceedings at the film festival

Making an entrance: Director Spike Lee was seen in a bright pink suit at the event

Jury: Jury President of the 74th Cannes Film Festival Spike was seen with Jury members (L-R) Song Kang-ho, Tahar Rahim, Mylene Farmer, Maggie, Melanie Laurent, Jessica Hausner, Kleber Mendonca and Mati Diop,
‘It added to the complexity of the set: we found ourselves singing in very complicated positions, doing back-crawling or mimicking cunnilingus; acrobatic positions that technically modify your song [the way you sing].
‘But that was the effect Leos was looking for: he wanted the voices modified, thwarted, by the real [situation].’
Marion was intrigued by Carax’s vision because the musical movie – which tells the story of the titular young girl who is born with a special gift – is the first she can recall in which the characters have sex.
She said: ‘We strangely never see people f****** or doing trivial things in musical comedies.’

Sparkles: Singer Carla Bruni exuded Hollywood glamour in a light blue dress that was awash with crystals. She also donned a pair of earrings in 18ct white gold and a bracelet from Chopard

Seeing double! Bella, 24, looked giddy as she reunited with lookalike pal Carla, 53, at the opening ceremony

Annette is Carax’s English language debut and his first film since 2012’s Holy Motors. It features music from the band Sparks.
The French actress, 45, showed off her sense of style in a black and white Chanel blouse and black shorts.
She looked chic in the shirt which had a high-neck design and print detailing while showing off her legs in the midi shorts.
The film star completed the look with a pair of matching black ad white heeled boots and wore her brunette tresses in a sleek side parting.
Meanwhile Adam cut a dapper figure in a black suit and navy shirt as he posed next to his co-star Marion.

The trailer opens with Henry (Driver) and Ann (Cotillard) frolicking in a field, with Henry stating, ‘The first time I fell in love I woke up next to the girl and escaped, fast and far.’

Henry, who is described as, ‘a stand-up comedian with a fierce sense of humor,’ is seen performing on stage, before Henry and Ann’s daughter is born, Annette.
The doctor is seen using a comically large pair of scissors to clip the umbilical cord as the couple welcome their first child.
Henry is seen cradling the newborn with one arm while blowing cigarette smoke away from her in their backyard.
The trailer continues with a number of shots of Driver, Cotillard and Simon Helberg, who plays a musical conductor simply known as The Conductor.

Making an appearance: Jury member Jodie was also one of the attendees and donned a pair of earrings in 18ct white gold from Chopard’s Red Carpet Collection and diamonds and a ring in platinum from the Haute Joaillerie Collection

Unique: Melanie paired a bedazzled waistcoat with a matching skirt made of white tulle
Annette’s popularity has seemingly grown beyond both Henry and Ann, with the couple seen running with the child from a mob of fans.
Other fans in a packed building hold up signs that read, ‘We love Annette,’ as the couple are seen on a boat as Ann says, ‘Is nothing sacred to you?’
Ann is seen shielding her face from an oncoming car collision, as Henry is being lead through the Los Angeles County Jail.
The trailer winds down with a number of dramatic shots including Driver yelling to a crowd, ‘What’s your problem?’
The final shot finds a distraught Henry telling presumably Annette that, ‘Everything will be all right.’
The film will be released in theaters on August 6, before debuting on the Amazon Prime Video streaming service on August 20.
