Charley Webb is reportedly quitting Emmerdale after 19 years after her husband Matthew Wolfenden was allegedly caught up in a race row.

The actress, 33, has played Debbie Dingle on the soap opera for almost 20 years but is reportedly quitting the Yorkshire drama ‘for good’.

An insider told The Sun that Charley, who last appeared on Emmerdale at the start of the year, does not plan to return to the show, claiming that Matthew’s on-set row ‘fuelled’ her decision.

Goodbye! Charley Webb, 33, who plays Debbie Dingle on soap opera Emmerdale, is reportedly quitting the soap ‘for good’

‘Charley is closing the door on Emmerdale for good and won’t be going back,’ the source told the publication.

‘The past few months have given her time to think about the future and it is one that doesn’t involve Emmerdale.

‘Matthew being caught up in the row on set fuelled her decision to step away.’

A spokeswoman for Emmerdale told MailOnline: ‘There are no current plans for the character of Debbie Dingle to return to Emmerdale.’

Argument: Matthew (pictured with Charley in 2017) became embroiled in a row after a complaint that an inappropriate comment was made to a mixed-race female cast member

Long time: The actress, 33, has played Debbie Dingle on the soap opera for almost 20 years (pictured on the show in 2005)

Her character Debbie, who is living in Scotland, has been absent from the show since the start of the year and an episode earlier this month saw her aunt Chas Dingle confirm that the character would not be back anytime soon.

She told Paddy Kirk: ‘Debbie’s not coming home for Christmas.’

Matthew, who plays David Metcalfe on the soap, said earlier this year that his wife was waiting for the world to return to normal before re-joining Emmerdale full time.

In October, Matthew became embroiled in a row on set after a complaint that an inappropriate comment had been made to a mixed-race female cast member.

Matthew, 41, and Isabel Hodgins, who plays Victoria Sugden, were also faced with allegations that the actress’s accent had been mimicked. They have both denied all allegations.

Allegations: Matthew (pictured with Charley in 2014), 41, and Isabel Hodgins were faced with claims that the actress’s accent had been mimicked. They denied all allegations

It was also claimed that Matthew had a row with his co-star Aaron Anthony, who plays Ellis Chapman, with Aaron reportedly telling Emmerdale bosses he will leave the show when his contract expires.

He and co-star Isabel Hodgins were alleged to have ‘mimicked the accent of a mixed-race actress’ on the set of the popular ITV soap.

Fellow Emmerdale star Aaron was said to have dramatically quit because he is ‘bitterly angry’ with two of his co-stars who are facing the race probe.

Aaron, who plays Ellis Chapman, told producers he will not be returning after his contract ends because he is furious with his colleagues’ alleged behaviour, claims The Sun

Last month, reports emerged an unnamed actress of Emmerdale was upset following an inappropriate comment made towards her, before it was claimed her accent was mocked during the fall out.

It was said Matthew, and Isabel, 27, who portrays Victoria Sugden, are the pair facing allegations.

Nineteen years: Some of Debbie’s tense storylines included her having a fling with married man Andy Sugden and becoming a mother to Sarah when she was 15

Both stars – who joined the soap in 2006 – have categorically denied claims of racism and have suggested the whole thing was a misunderstanding.

Charley’s plans not to return to the show come after her character Debbie has seen 19 years of jam-packed and drama-filled storylines on Emmerdale.

Some of Debbie’s tense storylines included her having a fling with married man Andy Sugden and becoming a mother to Sarah when she was 15.

Debbie then falls in love with Jasmine Thomas, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman but was left heartbroken when her father Cain has an affair with her girlfriend, while she later had a relationship with killer Cameron Murray.

Cameron tried to kill Debbie in a drama-packed episode which saw them desperately trying to stay afloat after becoming trapped in the pub’s flooded cellar.

A few years later, Debbie starts dating Pete Barton but she then has an affair with his brother Ross, with the pair planning to run away together just days before her wedding to Pete.

Their plan was discovered by Debbie’s father Cain and the pair went ahead with the wedding, with Pete being unaware of the affair until it is revealed during their first dance.

Pete was furious with Debbie, but moments later a helicopter crashed into the venue and killed guests Val Pollard and Ruby Haswell. The couple later parted ways.

Meanwhile, Debbie’s relationship with Ross takes a dark turn as she avoids jail for her part in organising an acid attack targeted at him.

She moves to Scotland to start a new life but later returns, as it is revealed that Al Chapman has been cheating on Priya with her.

MailOnline has contacted Charley’s representatives for comment.
