The Duchess of Cambridge lived up to her reputation of being a frugal fashion icon in 2021 by recycling more outfits than ever and slashing the value of her wardrobe in half.
FEMAIL can reveal that Kate Middleton, 39, has worn new items of clothing worth a grand total of £48,845 in 2021, almost half of her £93,914 total in 2020. It’s the lowest tally in years, after a £103,075 wardrobe total in 2019 and £68,334.23 in 2018.
Her wardrobe value in 2017 remains the most expensive to day, at a value of £119,000.
Her most expensive look of 2021 came in September, when she donned a customised £4,000 Jenny Packham gown to attend the premiere of No Time to Die.
But despite opting for some more expensive labels, the Duchess has been recycling more than ever for royal engagements, wearing head to-toe new looks on a rare four occasions.
The Prince of Wales is understood to cover the costs of Kate’s wardrobes for ‘work-related’ engagements through his official household budget, funded by the Duchy of Cornwall, but it is not clear whether the Duchess always pays full price for outfits or receives discounts.
Below FEMAIL reveals the new purchases Kate has been sporting on official engagements, only taking into account the value of items that haven’t been seen before in public.
Where outfits have been custom-made for the Duchess of Cambridge, the price has been estimated.
