A British Army soldier climbed into a female colleague’s bed and groped her after a boozy evening playing a drinking game, a court martial today heard.

Lance Corporal Lewis Peters was ‘very very drunk’ after he and colleagues spent the the evening playing the card game Ring of Fire and downing various drinks including tequila.

The 22 year old had allegedly become jealous earlier on in the evening when the woman – who arrived at the unit that day – was play fighting with a colleague and asked them ‘why don’t you two just f*** already’.

Later on, LCpl Peters then went into female soldier’s room while she was sleeping and – while naked from the waist down – he repeatedly tried to touch her breast, the court heard.

Bulford Military Court heard how Peters had become ‘jealous’ earlier in the evening after the the female colleague started play fighting with another person

The woman described the incident as ‘nerve wracking’ and she tried to move as far away from him as possible in the single bed.

The court was told LCpl Peters climbs into others people’s beds naked ‘a lot’.

But LCpl Peters, of the Army Air Corps, denies one count of sexual assault.

Bulford Military Court, Wilts, heard it was the woman’s first day at the unit at Wattisham airfield, Suffolk, and LCpl Peters had showed her to her room that afternoon.

In a recorded police interview played to the court, the woman said: ‘Later on, he said ‘do you want to come and meet the others over a few drinks?’

‘I introduced myself and everyone was watching the football. A drinking game, Ring of Fire, started to be played.

‘I brought a bottle of tequila and they said that I was accepted into the group, but I didn’t drink any of it.

‘I had seven or eight Kopparbergs – I was between tipsy and drunk. I remember what happened crystal clearly.

‘I left with someone to walk a dog. He started video calling me asking me where I had gone – he was standing in my room. He had searched my name and found me on Facebook.

‘I came back later and everyone had moved to another room.

‘I then had a playfight with one of the others as we had been talking about who was strongest. He got quite annoyed at that.

‘He was very, very drunk at that point. He said ‘why don’t you two just fuck already’ and that he was ‘jealous’.

‘It was really weird, I had only just met him.’

The court heard the woman then went to sleep and was roused when she felt someone next to her.

She said: ‘He was not wearing any trousers and I looked up and saw that it was LCpl Peters. He started trying to grab my breast.

‘I said ‘no don’t put your hand there. I don’t want it there put it somewhere else’. I kept saying the same thing: ‘I don’t want you to touch me’.

‘Later on, the same thing happened, him trying to put his hand up my shirt, under my bra. I grabbed his hand and told him ‘no’. He kept trying but after a while he stopped.

‘I moved away from him as far as I could.’

The alleged incident took place on the woman’s first day at the unit at Wattisham airfield, Suffolk (pictured)

In the morning, the woman told the court she asked him to leave multiple times but he kept wanting ‘cuddles’.

‘He left for five minutes but came back with a drink – it took him ages to leave,’ she added.

While LCpl Peters admitted he was drunk, he claimed he had climbed into bed naked first before she joined him and they went to sleep. He said ‘at no point’ did he touch her breast.

He told the court: ‘I was quite intoxicated. I took all my clothes off because that’s how I sleep, she didn’t have an issue with it.’

The trial continues.
