Police have launched an investigation after a husband and wife in their 80s were found dead in Norfolk. 

Officers were called to the house in, Cromer, shortly after 7pm yesterday when they discovered the bodies. 

The East of England Ambulance Service called police at 7.18pm to attend the bungalow in the coastal town which is 23 miles north of Norwich. 

The emergency services were called after a neighbour and a carer arrived at the £500,000 property yesterday afternoon. 

Locals described the couple as ‘warm, friendly and sociable’, saying everyone is shocked. 

The couple’s cleaner arrived at the property this morning unaware of the tragedy. 

Norfolk Police said they are treating the deaths as ‘unexplained’ pending a post mortem examination.

White-suited forensic police officers were today seen searching for clues to the tragedy in the couple’s well-kept home.

The gateway to the house in a quiet residential street was cordoned off with police tape as a uniformed officer stood guard outside. 

Norfolk Police said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the tragedy.

Officers are awaiting the results of post mortems by a Home Office pathologist to try and establish how they died.

Senior investigating officer DI Chris Burgess of Norfolk Police said: ‘Our investigation is in its early stages, however we believe that those involved are known to one another and we are not currently seeking anyone else in relation to this investigation.

A police cordon is in place at the property and detectives will carry out further enquiries to establish the full circumstances leading up to this incident.’

Officers have informed the next of kin.

The couple are believed to have lived in the area for the past 25 years. 

They are understood to have three adult sons, none of whom live locally.
