Fancy an adventure in a chunky pick-up truck kitted out with everything, including the kitchen sink?
Japan’s Isuzu has the answer — with a special expedition-ready version of its new D-Max Arctic Trucks AT35, which I spotted at this week’s Commercial Vehicle Show at Birmingham’s NEC.

Created by Isuzu’s UK team and codenamed Basecamp, it is based around the standard AT35 which went on sale this month from £47,999.
It includes: a rooftop tent, fridge, three-burner gas stove, 12-litre collapsible sink, luggage space, safe storage for a gas bottle, water and fuel containers.
With 4×4 drive, towing capabilities of 3.5 tonnes, and a maximum payload of 1,161kg, it rides on 17-inch black Arctic Trucks alloy wheels fitted with 35-inch LT315/70 R17 mud-terrain tyres.
The lightweight rooftop tent reached by ladder has a skyview window – which gives you extra light by day and a view of the stars by night – and an interior map of the world to inspire the adventurous spirit of travel.
Isuzu UK product manager Brian Wheeler said: ‘Basecamp is built to conquer all types of landscapes and be a true adventure vehicle. It demonstrates the extreme nature and possibilities of new the AT35 and really does embrace everything you need, including a roof tent and the kitchen sink!
‘It is a professionally re-engineered vehicle incorporating significant enhancements to the body, frame, drivetrain, suspension, and tyres. The new flagship model in the D-Max range retains its commercial vehicle status, with no compromise to payload or towing capacity and comes with Isuzu’s five-year/125,000-mile warranty.’
Isuzu was founded in 1916 in Japan and began importing into the UK in 1987 with the Trooper model.
