A Love Island race row has erupted as fans of the ITV2 dating show accused producers of ‘segregating’ the couples based on the colour of their skin.

There was outcry on social media during Monday night’s show, which saw the four black contestants paired together by a public vote: Indiyah Polack with Ikenna Ekwonna and Amber Beckford with Dami Hope

The six white contestants were also coupled up: Liam Llewellyn with Gemma Owen, Luca Bish with Paige Thorne and Andrew Le Page with Tasha Ghouri.

It is the first time the initial coupling-up has been decided by the public, as previous years have placed the power into the hands of the contestants.

One aggrieved fan wrote on Twitter: ‘So they’ve essentially segregated the couples as two black couples and three white couples… is that what i’m getting?’

Another expressed: ‘As soon as she said the public would be matching up the couples I just KNEW the black people would all be put together. Why did the producers think this was a good idea?’

A third branded the coupling-up ‘so predictable’, while a fourth said it is ‘so embarrassing seeing the public match the black contestants together only’.

During Tuesday night’s instalment, Love Island fans made their feelings clear after Davide Sanclimenti opted to couple up with Gemma Owen in the first recoupling of the series.

Watching the scenes unfold, fans slammed the Italian hunk, 27, for picking the wrong girl and claimed he made a ‘mistake’ after stealing the beauty, 19, away from her partner Liam Llewellyn.

Meanwhile, despite them both being consenting adults, fans also shared their discomfort over the pair’s eight-year age gap, with some wondering why Davide would pick someone so young.

In the tense episode, Davide’s decision left Gemma’s partner Liam single and vulnerable, with the Masters student at risk of being dumped from the villa.

And while Liam was no doubt unimpressed with the new couple, so too were the public as they expressed their dismay at the pairing.

Taking to Twitter, one viewer wrote: ‘I feel like it was so obvious that Davide was going to choose Gemma but they just DON’T work.’

While another shared: ‘Davide chose stuck up Gemma big mistake bro Feel for that Liam lad tho.’

A third penned: ‘he really didn’t pick Gemma for anything other than her looks she hasn’t said anything remotely interesting.’

‘Gemma and Davide have to be the least compatible couple I’ve ever seen….’ fumed a fourth.

With a fifth adding: ‘Why did Davide pick Gemma, I thought he wanted to find the one.’
