‘Salt glows are one of the most revitialising full body treatments you’ll ever experience!’ Abigail wrote on her Instagram profile

‘I first discovered this form of DIY full body exfoliation from a book called “Back to Eden” when I’d just entered my teens, and I’ve been applying them ever since to exfoliate my whole body with what I feel to be the most maximum exhilaration ever – in a body scrub.’

The 45-year-old mum said she ‘prefers’ salt over any other ingredient for a body scrub, because salt is ‘naturally high in the minerals we need so much, thereby acting to alkalise and restore the body far more than sugar, coffee, walnut husks or anything else I’ve tried yet’.

What are the benefits of a salt scrub?

* Exfoliation

* Increased blood flow and circulation

* Improves cellulite

* Anti-ageing

* Relaxation

* Helps lymphatic movement

* Removes waste cells from the body

Abigail said she either uses 50 per cent plain sea salt or Celtic salt, which is more expensive, but higher in essential minerals.

‘If you’re using Celtic salt, simply add 50 per cent Epsom or magnesium salts and mix well,’ she said.

If you are feeling adventurous and don’t mind a mess, Abigail revealed you can add a few extra health-giving ingredients to your mixture including an essential oil of your choice, spices like cinnamon, turmeric or ground coffee, vanilla, clays, seaweed or raw cacao.

‘Today I am using some powdered lemon myrtle in the basic salt mix with essential oils of mint, geranium and a hint of clove,’ Abigail said.

When it comes to the benefits of such a practice, they are myriad.

You can expect to be stimulating your circulation, helping lymphatic movement, removing waste cells from the body and ‘activating your largest eliminatory organ – your skin’.

Abigail accompanied her post with a video of her trying the salt scrub in her outdoor shower.

Previously, the model mum shared her other beauty secrets including aloe vera as a skin serum and raw cacao as an anti-ageing face mask.

‘This is my aloe vera from my garden,’ Abigail explained in a video.

‘All I do is cut it in half and you can see there is lovely slimy jelly inside. With that, I just coat the skin with all that lovely moisturising gel.

‘It’s basically nature’s serum. It just soaks right in without leaving your skin oily.’

What is Abigail O’Neill’s day on a plate?

BREAKFAST: Softly poached eggs with piles of fresh herbs and seaweed

LUNCH: Antioxidant rich cacao and green smoothie

AFTERNOON SNACK: Fresh cold pressed vegetable juice

DINNER: Baked root vegetables, legumes or rice with a green salad, with plenty of chopped herbs like dandelion leaves, basil, coriander and parsley

Her raw cacao mask contains just two ingredients – raw cacao and manuka honey, which are then mixed together, applied to the face, left on for an hour and then rinsed off.

Speaking previously to FEMAIL, Abigail shared some of her other secrets:

‘In a nutshell – clean eating, hydration, daily consumption of raw chocolate, hydrotherapy, rest, trust (letting go of stress), exercise, no alcohol or processed foods and plenty of sunshine,’ she said.

‘I also fast periodically and eat simply to give the organs a chance to rest and detoxify. If your internal organs are happy, your skin should also be radiant.

‘I’ve lived like this for a long time now, three decades in fact, but I believe it’s never too late to start, your body will always thank you for treating it well.’

She practises regular hydrotherapy – whereby she gives herself a daily blast of cold water in her baths and showers.

‘I love to swim in winter too in wild mountain streams and in the ocean as often as I can,’ Abigail added.

‘Hot and cold is excellent to increase metabolism, improve your overall health, and youthful appearance.’

‘I eat only organic, mostly raw, mostly plant based, locally grown produce,’ she said.

‘I only take supplements that are real food based, such as bee pollen, spirulina and barley grass powder.’

Furthermore, she swears by raw chocolate – which she insists is the secret to her ageless complexion.

‘Raw chocolate is basically like taking a multivitamin, only much more enjoyable,’ she said.

‘Daily, I eat a generous serve of my raw chocolate,’ she said.

‘I find this the best ever for eliminating cravings, and giving back rejuvenation, beauty, and energy to my skin and body.’
